OK I was slow to call this part of the ARG, but with it's launch at Comicon and the changes to the site last night, I'm calling it.

At comicon the lost swag was Lost University material.
On the back of the Lost U. flyer was written:
Prof. Nussdorf need TA? 818-824-6300

Last night while DCBP updated, so did Lost U.

This stuff is gonna be a lot of fun I can already tell! Does anyone know if you can pick which classes you wanna take or not?

Looks like you have to buy the Blu Ray season 5 DVDs and need a blu ray player connected to the internet to use the BD Live feature. Then I guess you would get instructions for the courses.

I don't think you HAVE to have a Bluray to play LU, I think its just for enhancement.

I don't have a Blu-ray to know how the interactive feature works- but this is what it says on the LU site:

"Found exclusively on Blu-ray is the main campus of LOST University"

and this is the listing of features on Blu-ray and DVD:

"LOST University powered by BD-LiveTM Blu-ray Exclusive".

Everywhere it mentions LU it says Blu-ray exclusive, and it looks like it needs to be interactive- don't know how you would do that with a regular DVD.

Its sounding a lot like if you don't have a bunch of money to spend, then you have to take a back seat on this "fan appreciation" arg. I cant afford the pictures, and i certainly cant afford to go out and buy myself a blu-ray player, and the dvd.
Bit of a bummer. Fingers crossed some of the events or clues happen in the UK, because so far, pretty left out in that respect too.

I don't know how big a part the BluRay set will play in the LU.
LU says they begin Sept. 22. No DVD's 'till December (US)/October (UK).

Have any other ARG's advertised Lost DVD's before?

Edit: Nvm.

"Semester 1 begins on December 8, 2009, at which point you will be able to choose and enroll in all of your classes, as you build credits toward Semester 2 and graduation. In the meantime, feel free to browse the online course catalog and get a head start with some of your recommended reading."

It looks like everyone can do the Introductory Course 101 and they do mention I phone applications and more "online courses". Maybe there will be something online via computer if not the actual university. Also, as I said above, a couple of the reading list books are interesting on their own, and I got "The Field" for $4.99. But yeah- at the end of the promo tape for LU it does say Coming soon to Blu-ray HD.

LU News has a new Sept 18 entry about a "bright light" event occurring at the campus. Countdown clock continues. Anyone got an email yet?

EDIT: Holy s**t! Did anyone see that?! I took screencaps, just in case. About to post.

The clock ran out:

Sirens, sounded just like timer running out at The Swan, then counted from 5 to 1:

Timer reset, and silence.

...wow.

Thanks for the screencaps- very cool. Have logged in and going to placement test. Going to cheat with Lostpedia for sure!;)

Edit- Fun to watch the "incident" at midnight. Think the site is glitching a bit as my test got stuck so I had to do it again, and Lost 101 video is still stuck with Shannon buying bug spray from Sawyer. The freshman t-shirts show "No Image" not available and sold out- I don't think they're gone yet- just not loaded in maybe.

I got 21/23 first time around. Not sure where I went wrong. Doesn't tell you, either.

Have you signed up for Lost University? Then you take the placement test and then will see a forums tab on the top. There people are making up threads on just about everything.

Edit-
It may be that TPTB are hearing/have anticipated that those without Blu-ray bdlive were going to be upset when they realized that having them was the requirement for accessing the LU courses. So looks like there will be other interactive instruction- this from LU News:

September 22, 2009
Department of Media Studies and Online Education to Open Tutoring Center
Can’t wait for the full-LOST University experience on LOST: The Complete Fifth Season Blu-ray? You’re in luck! The Department Of Media Studies and Online Education is happy to announce the LOST University Tutoring Center, here at lostuniversity.org. These interactive seminars will explore various topics to help provide a better understanding of the elements that make up LOST. Tutoring sessions will be available to all who enroll in late October. Check back for additional updates.

Has anyone been able to translate the symbols from when the counter on LU's page reset?

http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab144/R7i1c3K/symbols.jpg
M8:G1:Y1(Sideways?):N35:M17:S29:A26:Z7

I can't get it to translate, but N35:M17:S29:A26 means "summon" and has been used before.

A little help, please? :)

All I could come up with is that since the figures are facing left, it should be read from left to right, and that the last (z7) symbol looks like the number glyph for 100.
