View Full Version : The importance of Alpert's eyeliner

Aside from the theory that Richard Alpert is a vain metrosexual stuck on a permanent vacation, I think that Alpert's eyeliner relates to his immortality...like a pharoah or something...I've been researching all day, but can't find a conclusive connection to the ancient world, immortality and the wearing of eyeliner.

Anyone want to help out?

LOL.

As a matter of fact, on wikipedia, you'll notice eyeliner was first created by Hercules. He passed it down to the people with 4 toes and they kept it for themselves on a private island in which Richard Alpert became leader and found a way to use it in order to pro-long his lifespan.

Duly noted. Thanks.

One last straggle of hope for this thread—maybe they'll work in his dark eyes like they did with Jack's tattoos?

Considering how badly the Jack tattoo angle went, I can't imagine they would.

You mean guyliner, right?

Eyeliner is for girls. (Not that I actually think calling it guyliner makes it any less effeminate.)

I like how "Hercules" and "Fact" are in the same sentence HAHAHAHAAAA

But, he doesnt wear eyeliner.. its just the way the man looks, I swear, watch anything hes ever been in, he has thick eyebrows and thick eyelashes, which make him look like hes wearing eyeliner, look at imdb (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004801/).. I have the same issue.. and it sucks!..

Problly more likely, because last I heard, we arent on "Stargate"(where EVERY alien wears eyeliner) and hes not the lead guitarist of "H.I.M"... :p

You're right. And men wearing mascara is indeed much more common than them wearing eyeliner ;)

Stranger in a strange land was great becasue it featured bai ling. If they brought back all the original cast memebers of family matters and had bai ling guest star, I'd be there.

I can't believe all this negative talk about Jack's tattoo episode.. could you guys not look past that small bit or something? There was more to that episode than the small amount of filler.

Seeing Isable @ the Hydra, seeing captured Losties as apart of the Others, the symbolism that Juliet is not a 'true' Other, some allusions to the Room 23 video and such.. I mean the list goes on (not much further, but it does). Sure when you wait a week for the next 'hit' of Lost and you get something that is a bit lackluster it can be very disappointing. However, when you watch it on the DVD in continuous order, you really feel the progression of the story and the little clues\reveals here and there and how they relate to the whole story. Almost everything in Lost has a purpose or meaning, so hopefully you guys can watch it again with a more positive perspective.

As for Richard Alpert, he wears NO eye makeup of any sort.

Nestor Carbonell's character needs to be more intense and dramatic in some of his scenes. He plays such a passive and mellow character. Although Nestor Carbonel is mighty fine :D

Really? What part did he play? I don't remember it. Of course that show started before he was ever in LOST, so maybe I wouldn't have recognized him.

A woman I used to work with did that. She looked ridiculous when she came into work the day after it was done.

Yeah, it was pretty bad. Even when the swelling/redness went down, it just didn't look right. Especially when she was too lazy to wear other makeup.

It's funny a came across this topic because in this last episode Sawyer makes a smart comment about "the guy with the eyeliner." not an exact quote, but I laughed when he said it.
P.S.
Richard is VERY good looking. (sigh!)

Eyeliner or not, he's eerily similar in my mind to Anthony Perkins--right down to the mannerisms....

I think the writers got lucky casting a guy who looks like he has eyeliner, and can tie it in with the Egyptian stuff if they want.

Good thing about this show is when you get so many foreshadowings, retcons, and details right, even a little stuff that wasn't originally intended ends up fitting nicely.
